Salt potatoes are an all time favorite in Up-state NY. We make them here out of little red potatoes, but they are never quite the same as the ones we eat this time of year in NY.
This is how they look when they are ready to eat...yum! They come in bags exactly like the one pictured below. You can find them in any local supermarket or corner store for just a couple of bucks and they come fully loaded with a bag of salt. You need only add butter:)
Seafood is another favorite on the east coast. These are things we find hard to come by out here in the Midwest so far away from the ocean.
Steamed clams are a special treat you can get during the Fireman's picknick back home. You can buy them just like this by the dozen and eat to your heart's content. You can also pick them up in the local grocery stoes by the 100s for just a few dollars and make them yourself either by steaming them or cooking them on the grill. We love them!
Crab legs are another thing we miss. Out here in the midwest it is hard to find them fresh and not frozen becasue we are so far from the ocean. Frozen crab legs are simply not as good as the ones you can get on the east coast. They are cheeper there too because they are plentiful.
and...we certainly cannot forget the Hofmann hot dog! These babies are the best all beef hot dogs you will ever tempt your taste buds with. We have already decided that the first stop from the airport will be at a local hotdog place. I can taste them already! We plan on getting a little of all of these while in our home town and surrounding area. This will be a fun trip and kind of an adventure. We are doing it different this time so Ray and I are excited. We will be landing in Syracuse and renting a car, just the two of us and then it will be one adventure after another as we meet with people we love and share some of the foods we miss. God is good! Wish you could come along:)

YOu have intrigued me. Can you reply back and share more of what salt potatoes are? You said you "make" them out of baby reds. Are they sliced and fried? I'm curious.
I love me some crab legs too! I've never done the frozen...only done them on vacation in restaurants. We visited a restaurant that had a huge seafood buffet for $25 each in Florida. You could eat as much lobster and crablegs among other things. They even gave patrons a big bucket to discard the shells.
Email me.
O my goodness I almost fell into that photo of the crab legs!!! :)
Enjoy your trip and be safe in Jesus Name. Love ya!
How wonderful it will be to have you in CNY. I do pray I get to see you and your hubby. The salt potatoes are as wonderful as ever. The Hot Dog stand will give you a very fine hot dog, but they are no longer Hoffman's. Long story someone will be certain to share with you when you arrive.
Blessing you and your trip. Oh yes, I have gone back to Blogger. I explain on my blog.
Have a wonderful time!
