Stones...

Stones...
In looking at this picture of stones you will undoubtedly notice how dissimilar each of them are from the others. Each with its own unique shape, texture, color and size. Though each one is considered a stone by definition, pay close attention to the many variances between them. These stones differ not only in appearance; they also differ in strength, density, mass and content.

Some of these stones were found in the middle of the path where there were many other stones beneath and all around them, but others were plucked from the outer edge of the trail. Standing alone, a stone seems small and insignificant, yet when added to the many other stones along the pathway...the stone finds its value and purpose.

I guess you could say that believers are much like stones; each unique in a variety of ways. Each with individual significance and value. We were all intended to be of use in a body of believers as I am sure you realize, but there are those people who, like the tiny stone on the edge of the trail, are often overlooked. Many people with in the body hunger to serve alongside others in the body, but for whatever reason, have not found their place. Perhaps you know someone in your own body of believers who might fit this description.

Just as each stone adds a certain something to the pile in the picture or along the wooded path, each unique person brings something of their very own to add to the body of believers. Praise the Lord we are not all the same, Amen? The diversity among us adds flavor to the body. Since we are all created by the same God, we all have something of value to bring to the body.

Today I am reminded of the importance in paying attention to people that are in my life, yet not necessarily a part of my life. I realize that when the Lord puts us together with other believers, no matter who they are, we are expected to make room for each one in some way. The stone that is overlooked has no feeling whatsoever when it is goes unnoticed, but people, unlike stones, are very aware of when they have been overlooked or left out and the damage can be severe.

Lord help me not to be so self-absorbed that I overlook someone you have placed in my life. I want to be aware and present with those you have intended for me to meet and be in relationship with. Forgive me for not always paying attention and give me an increased awareness in this area. Realizing that the person who is often overlooked could be the stone that will fit perfectly within the hole that is waiting for him/her compels me to simply love more. For I know it is your will Lord, that each one of your children would find their purpose. Let my life not be a hindrance in any way. Help me to pay attention and to allow people to invade my life to the degree that is healthy and pleasing to you. In Jesus name, Amen.
